indie games are safe!!
good news! unity has walked back a lot of the runtime fee!
they made a blog post outlining their new terms, the link is here. but if you want a sparknotes version, here's the highlights:
1. the runtime fee is not retroactive. previously released games are safe.
2. the fee only applies to the next major version of unity. developers can choose not to upgrade if they don't want do deal with it.
3. the fee is opt-in and number of installs is self-reported. if they'd prefer, developers can instead pay a 2.5% revenue share. (for reference, unreal is 4%.)
4. interestingly, the splash screen is being completely removed. this is probably a way to improve their reputation.
overall, this is a HUGE improvement! but, if I remember right, there was not any revenue share before, so, we are not at the same point we started. unity will still be taking a larger cut of developers' revenue if they choose to use newer features. but, it is nowhere near as drastic as we thought it would be.
overall, I think we're in a stable spot now, but I also think unity has lost most if not all of the trust it had. especially with indies. there has already been a mass exodus, and I kinda hope that will keep going.

We have carefully calibrated the overall aesthetic and tone of Possessor(s) and are proud of what we’ve come up with. Inspired by games like INSIDE, Signalis, and Control — and TV shows like Severance, we’ve created a world that feels both familiar and hauntingly surreal.
Imagine a post-apocalyptic sci-fi landscape, influenced by weird fiction world-building in such works as Jeff Vandermeer's Area X or the Annihilation film.
It’s “sony-walkman retrofuturism” in a game.

You’ll notice that Possessor(s) shares DNA with Hyper Light Drifter, despite being an entirely different world and story. As a studio, we’re eternally applying valuable lessons from our past successes and mistakes to our present work. We’re carrying those lessons forward, and transforming them into something unique with this game. We hope to continue to build on our legacy while pushing the boundaries of what we can create.
At its core, Possessor(s) is a game about relationships – specifically, the ones that hurt us and how we navigate through them. We wanted to explore the idea of getting out of toxic traps and the difficult journey of self-improvement. Our characters are trying to change for the better and struggling to stop punishing themselves. The theme of possession ties into how we heal from these emotional wounds.

I'm not sure about the release date yet. It's a pretty big project and I'm the only person working on it while having to balance work and studies with financial and medical issues.
However, I'm actively working on it and it's in later stages of development now. I'm really excited to share the progress on Online Obsession and it makes me happy to hear that people are excited ❤️
Also, if you'd like to test out the game sooner, I will be holding the third (and final) beta wave to test out the game before the release. I will keep everyone updated!

I kept forgetting to post this... But! Here's some of the stuff I've made for my game so far! It's called CLIENT: Automatic Investigator, and it's a goofy mystery visual novel. (Essentially: Ace Attorney but with robots and gods.)
You play as CLIENT, a computerized detective from ≈ 2002 CE. Its plasticine shell survived billions of years worth of apocalyptic events — until, in the year 2.00291732614102e+23, it finally wakes up from sleep mode. CLIENT is one of the few remaining non-sentient robots in the world. For investigative purposes, CLIENT is equipped with lie detectors, psyche sensors, and the ability to record anything said to it. Since it lacks vocal synthesizers, CLIENT must use hard evidence alone in its investigations. It communicates through what it collects — and through carefully selected audio recordings. (When given a microphone and silence, it turns out most people have a LOT to say.) In 2.00291732614102e+23, Earth's population is all sentient machines and undying deities. Since murder isn't possible (and the world is mostly utopian), CLIENT is left to solve inconsequential cases of counterfeiting, copyright infringement, and the occasional act of arson.
Everyone here is part of the game's first case (OPERATION: AMBROSIA). There will be four cases total, each released individually. Everything is still really early in development, but I'm excited! It's a super silly game & lots of fun to work on.

trying to update carnival's look because i want there to be this mane of yarn that goes down her back and turns into her tail. i liked the half stars of her old jacket so i turned them into her pants pockets thanks to @l-viathan 's idea. and the four pointed stars on her vest, but never a full five pointed one.
something something a five pointed star being a symbol of magic and wishes coming true and carnival feeling like she will always fall short of that five pointed star because of the circumstances of the wish that created her.
